to be WinForms or not to be WinForms ?

Posted on July 31, 2007 12:29 by JeanGab

We have to deal with some incredulous guys, thinking GOA WinForms is "just" a .Net WinForms wrapper...

Great! Let me explain why we did better than that!

GOA WinForms relates to .Net WinForms the same way as a painting of Bill Gates relates to Bill Gates himself.

In order to understand better what our technical guys made, you can start by comparing it with the Mono project. They designed the assemblies you can find in the DLLs of GOA standard and pro editions in C#. These assemblies include a whole set of functionalities like focus management, drawing controls, event management, keyboard integration, etc etc etc.

Of course, the development team could have referenced the textbox object in this way: netikatech.goaforms.textbox but, they haven’t! It was obvious that every Windows forms developer would prefer to continue to reference and use .Net WinForms names... and, that's it!

The goal of defining the same namespaces as System.Windows.Forms , System.Drawing, etc is "just" to benefit from the developer's experience! Are you already familiar with Windows Forms? Then, you don't need to learn more in order to produce Silverlight application!
